Romance by Richard Linklater
They talk, talk , talk , and talk. And they talk some more. and some more..and they talk and talk and talk.
They talk as if that day would be the last day in their lives..as if they vaulted those thoughts just for that day. They talk about how they met 9 years back, on a train (Before Sunrise) and fell in love. How they had to leave on the same day and promised that they were gonna call..and how they lost each others messages and how they went on with their lives and how much disappointed they are with their lives...etc. etc.
My friends, this is my kind of romance. An adult romance. Not for the boys whose heart melts at the sight of a histrionic woman and a girl who becomes wet at the thought of an alpha male. No, this is not about instant love. Because, these same adults ..found love like that...just in a day and consummated the same night. But, it didnt work out. They meet again now. He comes to paris to sign his book and she goes to meet him. You want them to fall in love again and break in to a song and dance...but they dont..they just talk. He has to go..his flight in the evening..but they just talk..and she cries..and his eyes becomes moist. Ethan Hawke, what a great actor he is! Julie Delphy is phenomenal!
There is something great about adults falling in love. Kids falling in love is mandatory. Its the harmones. But, adults, after all the shit they have seen, when they fall in love..its is beautiful. It wont have the same feeling as teenage love..because it has depth..the depth of taste that differentiates between a good wine and a kool aid.
I showed this movie to many of friends. The first reaction was always " WTF..nothings happening dude..they are just talking and talking and talking..nothing is happening..not even sex"...then ..he gotta leave to airport and he has utmost an hour or something .and he comes to her apartment..and then he asks her to sing..and she sings..and she tells whatever she wants to say in that song..everything..
If you dont like this movie..trust me..you are still a kid.
Whats the emotion you feel "Before Sunset"?
One of the very few times a sequel is better than the original.
