Avatar : Sleep or Headache? Choice is yours.

I am really not trying to be a rebel or trying to be some non-sheep material. Because, in the grand scheme of things, we are all sheep. I am sorry, but the hype killed Avatar. Its like video killing the radio star or something. "Master Piece", "King of Cinema", "Changing the face of cinema"...?? My Ass.

My patented statement :Never judge a book by its cover, a man by his looks, a woman by her emotions and a movie by technology.

Because, ultimately there is something else in movies which makes them magical for me..not necessarily story, screenplay, music, acting or photography....there is something else ..that belongs to the 'craft of direction'.
I unsuccessfully tried to define it for the last 5 years. The question goes like this : Given crappy music, amateur actors, awful photography.. can the director create a good movie?? My answer is a resounding YES.
The feeling you get while watching movies of great directors like Kubrick, altman,Coppola, Scorsese,Spike lee, Melville etc.... that feeling... is related to the 'craft of direction'. I am still not able to put my finger on that..but..may be it is more intuitive than logical. I really dont know. But, I was always able to feel it.

Anyway, that feeling was not there in this movie. As a movie goer, anyone wants to enjoy a movie. Same with me...I can watch any kind of movie..including the Hindi borefests. let me explain my experience.

First time I saw the 3D, I was instantly sold. The trailers of shrek and Jhonny depp's movies showed me for the first time the power of  3D. Then started Avatar.

I was totally mesmerised by what I was seeing. Amazing clarity, Amazing imagery,  Amazing movement.
Then the Pandora forest or whatever...and for the first 20 minutes..I thought I was watching some of the greatest moviemaking ever. But once the 'awe' died down, I started noticing that I was getting bored. Everything was predictable. The dialgoue was horrible (shut your pie hole, ruin my day, pick some samples). The characters has the same depth as  Hitlers compassion.Music I heard million times before, romance for kids....

To tell you the truth, I am among the target audience for this movie. I am the liberal tree hugger ..who hates the powers to be..etc..etc.. and not only that, I can now use the images of this movie and tell people that, " this is how a mushroom trip looks like". This movie is basically a James Cameron on LSD trip. I am not kidding. This includes the story too..the logical conclusions you get to during LSD trip are same as the conclusions in this story. But nothing can save the movie, if the director focused 10 yrs of the time and 300 million dollars on visuals. Ever heard of "Jazz singer"? Thats was the first talkie movie and people went crazy during that time. Well, there is a reason why u never heard of that and you know it.

Avatar is a good movie spoiled by hype and over enthusiastic promotion ( 250 more for promotion?)..but it is a must watch..just to find out the possibility of 3D and experience of LSD.

A overrated movie must be brought down and an underrated movie must be hyped up.I personally know how hard it is to make a movie..but I am sure my boo wont drown the mega applause.

Now coming to 3D, I think it is going to be the next super star.My reasons:

1. The actors looked soo close and real that they lost their magic. I took away my glasses and saw movie actors..but with glasses..I saw my colleagues. Having said that, that was the first time I saw  Sigourney weaver soo close and soo real. It sent blood through my loins so to speak. For fuk sake, she was the one who killed all the aliens. It was surreal to look at her soo close. I think the actors needs to super extra careful while dealing with 3D. Their flaws and human qualities can be magnified 100 times. The actors cannot be super humans anymore.

2. All through the movie, I was thinking of only one thing -- softcore on 3D.Harcore would be horrible though. Basic instinct on 3D would be absolutely fantastic.

3. My eyes became moist thinking about the possibility of K.Raghavendra Rao BSc..handling 3D.

4. I would marry that super hot navi girl..seriously!

May be they should have rated this movie '666'..it means Heathens not allowed.

That includes me and my navi counterpart.
Btw..what happens if we both meet??
